Can you imagine just how many Central London hotels have guests with digital photos of themselves walking across the famous zebra crossing? Situated in the St. John's Wood section of Northwest London is a rather grand 19th century building: this is Abbey Road. Difficult to believe? Expecting something modern? Well cast your mind back to the famous Beatles album cover and you'll remember it was all rather leafy and suburban in the sixties and it still is rather leafy and suburban. You'll be pleased to know that the famous zebra crossing is still here and that music fans from around the world make a stop right here on their continuing Beatles pilgrimages. Abbey Road Studios, at 3 Abbey Road, London NW8, is where most of the Beatles' recordings took place between 1962 and 1969. Ant and Dec also recorded here.
To get to Abbey Road, depart the Underground at St. John's Wood Station; position yourself southwest for Grove End Road, and follow Grove End Road for a ¼ mile. You'll arrive at a monument. Belisha beacons at the zebra crossing are there to warn drivers that this is a popular spot for pedestrians to cross the street. Drivers, let your conscience be your guide.
No tours are available as this is still a working business - but it's definetly worth a look if you're a Beatles fan, presenting as it does the perfect picture opportunity.
