Divided into six discernible areas (Hall Russell Shipyard Archive, Photographic Memory, The Alexander Macdonald Bequest, The Noble Peasant, Little But Good: The Great North of Scotland Railway and aeological Allsorts) the Aberdeen Art Gallery attracts more than 255,000 visitors a year. An impressive range of architecture, fine art collections and special exhibitions programmes keeps your average intellectual entertained on all counts. The Noble Peasant exhibition focuses on the way in which artists at the end of the 19th century came to ennoble peasants, turning men and women working on the lands and sea into idealised heroes and heroines. And if that doesn't make you feel superior, I don't know what will.
