So what's it like?

Originally founded in 1932 in memory of her husband, Sir Henry Barber, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts houses what is arguably one of the finest collections of 20th-century art in Britain. Bequeathed to Birmingham University by Lady Barber, the institute is also one of Birmingham's finest Art Deco buildings, purpose built by Robert Atkinson and opened by Queen Mary in 1939. The Barber Institute of Fine Arts possesses one of Europe's finest collections of Byzantine coins. The institute hosts a range of activities inclusing: Public Lectures, Adult Workshops, Holiday Workshops for Children and the Art Alive! phenomenon.
