Not in Newcastle exactly, but not far away. Blue Reef Aquarium is situated Tynemouth just a short distance from Whitley Bay. The aquarium provides visitors with a first rate introduction to life under the sea, with over 30 living displays including otters, some of the world’s deadliest frogs, native and tropical sharks and rays, seahorses and a great deal more. The naturally styled 500,000-litre pool includes rocky haul out areas and underwater caves along with a whole host of other environmental enrichment features to ensure these curious and highly intelligent marine mammals are kept in near natural conditions. Giant viewing panels and a ramped walkway provide visitors with an unrivalled opportunity to admire their grace and agility from both above and below the waterline. The Blue Reef Café serves a wide selection of food and drinks throughout the day. The aquarium also contains a marine themed gift shop with plenty of items available to remind you of your visit.
