Local History
Also known as 'Granite City' this bustling and enigmatic city retains all the glamour of a major city and all the grandeur of the Grampian hills. Located on the River Don, Aberdeen has a turbulent but heroic history. The city was burned by Edward III of England in 1336, but was soon rebuilt and extended, and called New Aberdeen. Then during the Scottish Civil War of 1644-47 the city was ravaged by both the Royalists and Covenanters and later ransacked by Royalist troops comprising of Irishmen and Highlanders after the battle of Aberdeen.
