Hurst Castle is yet another of Henry’s Castles. I don’t know whether the young Henry suffered any bad experiences with boats when he was a lad but the belligerent old King was fairly uncompromising when it came to reinforcing Britain’s mainland defences. Not a good thing for the Spanish, but a veritable treat for the rest of us and well worth a visit. Pebble Beach Restaurant is a gem of a restaurant in Barton on Sea. Even if they do say so themselves. With starters that have in the past included such mouthwatering options as kipper terrine, scallops, tiger prawns and salmon ballotine (has a beetroot condiment and creme fraiche mayonnaise) and main dishes.

The town has many road and rail links. The M3 motorway access to the M27 from junction 13 and via junction 1 on the M27 there is access to the A337, Cadnam, Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington Road.
