Local History
Located in Central Scotland with a past that boats a strong strategic and political importance, Falkirk stands at the junction of the Forth and Clyde Canal within easy reach of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Recently more famous for being the home of Scotland's first structural icon: the Falkirk Wheel, the town has enjoyed a broad history. In Roman Times Falkirk had strategic importance and as a consequence the Antonine Wall was built between the Firths of Forth and Clyde. William Wallace was also defeated at The Battle Of Falkirk in 1298 by King Edward I. Bonnie Prince Charlie led the siege of Stirling Castle at the second Battle Of Falkirk in 1746. In later years Falkirk became the centre of Scotland's iron-casting industry.
