Cairnbaan Hotel

3 star rating Crinan Canal, Cairnbaa Lochgilphead

Argyll Argyll and Bute PA31 8SJ

The Cairnbaan Hotel dates back to the early 1800s and boasts splendid views over the 9 mile-long Crinan Canal. Awarded a respectable 3-stars by the British AA and just two miles from Lochgilphead.

You'll find this stylish yet traditional hotel halfway along the Crinian Canal just off the A816. Incredibly this is one of only 12 hotels to have earned the status of a Scottish 'Heritage Hotel'.

There are 12 luxury rooms in total, each enjoying dark, rich colours and elegant, high-quality furnishings that blend perfectly well with your surroundings. The rooms are good mixture of large and small double en suites and large and small twins. There are also some interconnecting rooms for guests with young families in tow.

The food prepared in the kitchens is sourced almost entirely from local providers including the marvellous Ormsary Estate, whose beef is famous in this part of Scotland. There is also lamb from Barbreck Farm, pork from Teritchigan farm and terrifically fresh venison from 'Winston Churchill', our local game specialist. The Cairnbaan are also founder members of ‘The Seafood Trail’ and offer some of the best seafood dishes in Scotland.

The hotel can be reached from the north (Inveraray) on the A83 or the A816 (Oban), or from the Cowal peninsula on the Tarbert - Portavadie ferry.

Don't forget to pay a visit to the nearby Dunadd hill fort - one of Argyll and Bute's most stunning iron age settlements and believed by many to be the capital of the ancient kingdom of Dál Riata. The fort is just a few miles north of the Cairnbaan Hotel and be reached on the A816.
