Holgate Hill Hotel
2 star rating 122-124 Holgate Road

York North Yorkshire YO24 4BB

The ivy-clad Holgate Hill adds a dash of Georgian elegance to stays in historic York. National Railway Museum just five minutes walk.

The eighty pounds you’ll pay for a double room will be money well spent for such a capable little property. Set in its own private little garden in the Holgate area of York, this elegant Georgian building provides a quietly lavish base to explore this historic city. It’s not ostentatious by any means, but the period details add a dash of sophistication that’s rare in hotels of this size. The patio garden to the rear of the house is a great place to relax in the Summer and the hotel restaurant, famous locally for unfussy menus and speciality homemade puddings, is defined by a huge marble fireplace and yards of lavish drapes.

The hotel is easily accessible by car on the A59 into York and boasts excellent transport links. The main rail station just half a mile away and a local bus service pulls up right outside the entrance. Parking is free of charge – Reviewed by R4U
