The West End of Glasgow is defined by a dazzling array of boutique shops, art galleries, tea-rooms and bars for which it has quietly earned its place as the cultural heart of the city. The district's most famous hotel, One Devonshire Gardens on Great Western Road, has pretty much ensured a regular fleet of Hollywood Celebrities, giving rise to an area that owes as much to the glamour of Mayfair as it does to the gentle bohemian quirks of Notting Hill. And whilst discount rates are rare there are several cheap hotels in the West End's eastern and northern fringes (generally away from Glasgow's exclusive Park Area) that provide smart and adaptable lodgings convenient for the Byres Road thoroughfare and all the fashionable shops and galleries around Kelvingrove.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum sits on the banks of the River Kelvin as it flows southwards through the park. Glasgow's Botanic Gardens can be found a little farther north, a trip that will take you through Hillhead, an affluent residential suburb, generally regarded as the spiritual heart of the district (check out the Bellhaven West End just off Great Western Road). If it's bars and restaurants you are interested in, then exit your hotel and take a stroll up Byre's Road where you'll be inundated with options, from local contemporary Scottish cuisine through to Mediterranean. The prices quoted at these cheap Glasgow West hotels are based on room rates during the year 2014.
