There’s
no denying that Glasgow &
Clyde Valley is one of Europe’s most exciting and beautiful destinations, combining
the vigour, diversity and sophistication of a major international city with some
of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. Victorian red & honey sandstone, Italianate
steeples and medieval spires, neo-gothic towers provide a spectacular contrast
to the luxurious Art Nouveau of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the titanium, glass
and steel. Glasgow also has an enviable collection of museums and galleries –
many of them free – including the unique Burrell Collection, Mackintosh House
and the Gallery of Modern Art. For those who love the cutting-edge of Western
Culture, there’s the futuristic complex of Glasgow Science Centre, featuring IMAX,
the Science Mall, Glasgow Tower, Planetarium and Virtual Science. Glasgow and
Clyde Valley also plays host to the Scottish Opera company, the RSNO Summer Proms
and the West End Festival as well as the smooth sounds of Glasgow International
Jazz Festival. Then of course, there’s the inspiring Hogmanay Celebrations. A
short drive south of the city is the Clyde Valley Tourist Route, which carries
the visitor to the upper reaches of the River Clyde and the World Heritage Site
of New Lanark, whilst to the west of the city lies Renfrewshire
and the town of Paisley with
its medieval Abbey and Museum and Art Galleries.
