In spite of calls some some local councillors for its closure, Prestwick remains a popular hub for cheap flights to and from Europe. Ryanair has used Prestwick as a base for its no-frills airline with passnger traffic peaking at 2.5 million in 2007. The airport offers a range of parking options to take the hassle out of your transfer with both short-stay, long-stay and pick-up and drop-off points available. Car hire is available from both Hertz and Avis. Faclities include a spectator gallery, prayer room, currency booths and Play Zones for the kids. Prices at hotels in Prestwick are fairly reasonable by city standards with the Northbeach and the Golf View amongst the most friendly and inexpensive.
The Northbeach enjoys some terrific seaviews and sits adjacent to St Nicholas Golf Course and Prestwick Train Station. This makes getting to the airport (3 minutes away) or to neighbouring resorts like Ayr (about 15 minutes) an absolute doddle. Children under three years of age stay free of charge when using existing beds and there are meeting facilities for up to 120 people. Room rates start at £45.00.
As the name suggests, Golf View B&B occupies much the same position as the Northbeach on the Promenade. The Old Course is literally moments away and the Isle of Arran can be seen from some of the rooms (on a clear sunny day).
