This pretty little market town in East Hertfordshire goes all the way back to William the Conqueror who is believed to have laid the the first stones of Waytemore Castle. The remains of this motte and bailey castle can be found in Castle Gardens (Sworder’s Field) overlooking the River Stort. The M11 motorway, Stansted Airport, and the regularity of rail links to London and Cambridge mean that Bishops Stortford has become something of a commuter town. Visitors to the town can look forward to east access to Junction 8 the M11 and Stansted Airport (on the North Western fringes).
Hatfield Forest Nature Reserve can be found a few miles west of the town centre and boasts over a 1000 acres of Royal and ancient woodland.
