This is an ancient city dating back nearly two millennia to AD 79 and retains much of its original medieval character. The town is situated on the River Dee and is one of the best-preserved walled cities in the country. The city attracts millions of tourists every year and has become something of a shopping mecca and a more stylish and low key alternative. Book a fab Chester hotel or guesthouse for days out at the Zoo and shopping at the famous Tudor ‘rows’. The Holiday Inn and the Mercure are firm favourites with our users.

Travelodge

St John Street Chester Central Cheshire CH1 1DD

The city's historic centre is bursting at the seams with shopping opportunities so this Eastgate Travelodge is a great way of saving cash, whether it’s the well-known brands of the Chester’s Grosvenor Centre that attracts you or the more lavish boutiques of ‘the Rows’. The Travelodge enjoys all the usual signature touches like wi-fi and multi-channel television but the no-frills approach might disappoint those who haven't stayed at the chain before. For those who are leaving the car at home, the Belgrave Hotel on City Road is an attractive option. The hotel is located just a few minutes walk from the railway station and a 10-minute walk from the City Centre. Bedrooms are avilable as single, twin, double and triple. Children are welcome but it is not what we would call ideal for young families, as little provision can be made for cots and extra beds. The on-site restaurant serves cuisine from table d’hote and a la carte menus in a warm and pleasant atmosphere. In view of the prices at the time of writing you will certainly be hardpressed to find a hotel cheaper than this in Chester that’s for sure.

Chester enjoys some of the most indulgent places to be spoilt and pampered and its spa and shopping culture is second to none. Guests can shop at the latest designer stores and boutiques at the Grosvenor Centre or in the historic ‘Rows’. There are several hotels in the Eastgate district of the city centre that offer rooms at reasonable prices. Try the Travelodge at St John’s Court for biggest savings. For luxury stays, try five-star properties like the Grosvenor. This is a Grade II listed property in between Foregate and Northgate.

With some stunning panoramic views over Chester’s charming city walls and the rolling Welsh hills across the border, the Crowne Plaza provides an excellent base from which to explore this deeply historic city. Chester lies just off the M53 and the A55. Please note that there is no coach station in the city but a rail service operates from City Road. If no rooms are available on the dates you wish to travel, alternative Chester Hotels and cheap b&b lodgings will be listed as options.
