The giant four-poster beds, chandeliers and high corniced ceiling combine to produce a standard of opulence more commonly associated with Liberace’s Hollywood Hills Mansion; the rooms lacquered in rich upholsteries, plush velvet fabrics and gold-framed portraits. There is however a fun and affectionate dimension to all this: the elaborate pomp and circumstance retaining all the charisma of the theatre and the magical, musky charm of Alladin’s Cave.
