A bit of a revamp wouldn't go amiss in some but not all of the Cairn Hotel's 50 bedrooms, but the swanky, crushed velvet bistro restaurant suggests there are some boutique aspirations at the heart of this 2-star hotel in the lively Jesmond area of Newcastle. Just two minutes walk from the Metro Station and 20-minute walk from the city centre means this is a good base for getting out and about.
