Former convent proves a revelation with travellers between Dumfries and Castle Douglas. Excellent food and drink at the ‘Nine Mile’ Galloways Hotel.
Dumfries and Galloway. Well Dumfries is only a short drive East through the gorgeous Galloway Forest Park and the 6th Earl of Galloway or ‘Lord Garlies’ – Alexander Stewart was responsible for building this property in the first place, way back in the 1700s. Whilst the Earl is ‘still not at home’ and Robert Burns is still barred for various reasons, the hotel is open to guests with a taste for the Malt and a love of the country. The former Coaching Inn offers 18 modern bedrooms, two bars and a restaurant.
All rooms at the Galloway Arms Hotel are en-suite, have central heating, tea and coffee making facilities and flat-screen and wall-mounted TVs. The hotel has private parking and a drive in garage as well a secluded garden at the rear of the building. A private lounge on the first floor is reserved for guests whilst live football matches are available to view in the Public Bar. The Galloway Arms’ new Earls Room lounge offers a quieter alternative, with gentle leather seating, warm lighting and original Creetown granite walls. The hotel sits in the middle of Newton Stewart a quiet rural town in the heart of Galloway – R4U
