With a magnificent view of Lake Windermere and the Langdale Fells, Holbeck Ghyll is idyllic in any season, surrounded by the extensive woodlands and natural beauty of Cumbria. Its Michelin-starred restaurant overlooks lake and mountains, and bedrooms in the main house and the nearby lodge share the same glorious views. Holbeck Ghyll is ideally situated for exploring the attractions of the breathtaking Lake District. Built in the 19th century, the house was bought as a hunting lodge in 1888 by Lord Lonsdale, then one of the richest men in the country. Known as the Yellow Earl, he ensured that his name went down in history by bequeathing the famous Lonsdale Belt to boxing. His lodge was set in the incomparable landscape of the Lake District, overlooking one of Englands loveliest stretches of water - Windermere. Holbeck Ghyll recently won both the Room for Romance and Country Life Hotel of the Year awards and is rated 7 out of 10 in the 2006 Good Food Guide
