To the manor born! Over 300 acres of private landscaped gardens provide an idyllic backdrop to a right royal stay in Berkshire. What’s Jane Austen got to do with it? Room4u finds out.
Oakley Hall near Basingstoke truly is a hidden treasure amongst the lush rolling countryside of North Hampshire. Dating back to 1795 with close links to the family of celebrated literary maverick, Jane Austen, the house was at one time owned by the Bramston Family. In fact the Austen refers to the Hall in letters to her sister Cassandra, written at the turn of the 19th Century. This truly magnificent Georgian Manor House has a large sweeping driveway, a prettily tiled hallway and a very distinctive walnut-panelled library with views of the south-facing terrace and lawns that provide such a dramatic welcome for guests.
The 18 Courtyard bedrooms are served by Super King-Sized beds boasting Egyptian Cotton sheets and 32” LCD television screens. A fresh fruit bowl, bathrobe slippers and toiletries from The White Company are also provided to guests.
Oakley Hall also has Executive Courtyard rooms. These equally lavish rooms have an additional walk-in shower, a separate dressing room and a host of personal touches including fresh fruit, a media hub, steam free mirrors, bathrobe and slippers and adjustable moody lighting – R4U
