This cheerful pub with rooms property sits at the foot of the Church of St Editha in Tamworth Town Centre. The train station is just five minutes walk.
If you've come to Tamworth for its history then this could be an affordable and rather appropriate option. This is a family-run business and the name comes from the old stone cross that featured originally the market place.
The building itself dates back to the 1200s and ranks as the oldest pub in Tamworth. Legend has it that Highwayman, Dick Turpin stayed at the pub on his way from York to London (making good his escape in the tunnels beneath the property).
The B&B has seven guest rooms all of them clean and comfortable and there is a decked garden.
Bear in mind that this can get a little bit lively at the weekends. There is a BT sports in bar and open late on weekends.
