Fountain House
116-118 Church Road

Heathrow Greater London UB3 2LW

It might not be the most attractive hotels in the world (or even in Hayes) but it's definitely affordable. Competent yet basic and with an interesting claim to fame.

In some ways the rather bland and colourless rooms are a fitting homage to the classic dystopia envisaged by former resident, George Orwell. Orwell spent several of his formative years here in the early 1900s when the property was a school. He went on to write such literary classics as Animal Farm and 1984.

Today, things have changed a little and the property provides a comfortable base for trips to and from Heathrow Airport (just four miles away). There's a good selection of rooms on offer, including single rooms, family rooms, twins, triples and doubles and free wi-fi is provided as standard.

Hayes and Harlington Railway Station are both just a short bus journey away, and there is a direct service to the airport grounds. Down sides? Really needs a little bit of cash throwing at it. There is a lazy and tired approach - R4U
