Artto Hotel Boutique

39 Hope Street Glasgow Boutique Strathclyde G2 6AE

There’s some lovely discreet touches at the Arrto Hotel, just a few minutes walk from Glasgow Central Rail Station. Being at the centre of the financial and commercial districts make the hotel popular with business folks looking to add a plush and slightly ‘louche’ dimension to their stay. This is one of those signature boutique properties that boast bright, surprising colour schemes with all manner of curiosity furnishings; the overall effect pitched somewhere between a light ind ...

The weight of expectation might practically sink most other 5-star hotels, but this shockingly fine property in the snazzy west End of Glasgow bucks the trend and satisfies on just about every level. Let’s face it; few hotels anywhere in the world boast their own Wikipedia entry, but its reputation is such that it demands the kind of platform traditionally reserved for moon-landings and tsunamis. One Devonshire Gardens is located in an elegant, tree-lined Victorian terrace in which it stands pretty defines its character. Hotel from £105.00 per room.

Glasgow’s affluent Park District lends itself rather naturally to luxury accommodation, defined as it is by tall Victorian townhouses, and charming tree-lined terraces. The 5-star hotels and boutiques tend to be sprinkled evenly between Kelvingrove Park on the western edges of the city and 19th Century developments like Blythswood and Charing Cross.

If it’s first-class dining that takes your fancy then lavish 5-star properties like One Devonshire Gardens comes highly recommended, having already earned high praise as the ‘Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year’ in 2009 and ‘Chef of the Year’ in the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards 2008. Whilst the smaller and more intimate boutique and luxury hotels in Glasgow may have difficulty in competing in terms of culinary extravagance, properties like No.15 in Glasgow's swanky West End district have a style and character all to themselves, tastefully combining old world charm and funky, state-of-the-art nous.

Glasgow’s Park District has no shortage of surprises and no small amount of style. Head westwards down Dumbarton Road near Patrick Railway Station and you’ll find snazzy boutique shops like ‘Handbags & Gladrags’ (full of ace retro accessories), little coffee treasure troves like ‘Cafezique’, whilst further boutiquing, wine tasting and cheese nibbling can be enjoyed along Great Western Road and Byers Road. These are just around the corner from Kelvindale where you’ll find the luxury Hilton Glasgow and the 5-star Hotel du Vin.
